GENERAL
Question: What is Triple Crown Academy's Distance Education Program?
Answer:
Courses offered through our Distance Education Program are delivered over the Internet. We offer two online programs: “Dog Training Fundamentals:  An Enthusiast’s Guide” and the more advanced “Pet Obedience Instructor: Theory and Application of Canine Behavior”. Triple Crown developed its online courses employing similar methods and tools used for online courses offered by colleges and universities. The Learning Management System used to deliver our courses is Blackboard™, which is used by many institutions of higher learning throughout the country and the world. Interactive exercises and discussions are built into each course to create a full and robust learning experience for our students.

Question: What is the School Policy Regarding Complaints?
Answer:
The school has a Certificate of Approval from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC)to operate a career school or college in the state of Texas.

The TWC-assigned school number is S1904

The school’s programs are approved by TWC, Texas Department of Rehabilitative Services, and the Texas Department of Veterans Affairs.

Students must address their concerns about the school or an educational program by following the grievance process outlined in the school’s catalog.
Schools are responsible for ensuring and documenting that all students have received a copy of the schools grievance procedures and for describing these procedures in the school’s published catalog.  If, as a student, you were not provided with this information, please see school management.

Student’s dissatisfied with the schools response to their complaint can file a formal complaint with TWC, as well as with other accrediting agencies or accreditors, if applicable.

Information on filing a complaint with TWC can be found on it’s Career Schools and Colleges website by clicking the following link

Question: What if I do not have a computer or I do not have high speed computer access to the Internet?
Answer:
There are a variety of options you may look into, including using computers at your local public library. Some FedEx Kinkos stores have rental computer stations that you may pay for use. You might also look in your community to see if there are any businesses that rent computers.
Many retail stores (including some Fedex Kinkos, Borders, Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, etc.) offer WiFi high speed Internet access. Check your local retail stores to see what is available for your needs, if offered. It is the distance education student’s responsibility to insure that all technology requirements are met. Failure to do so may mean a less than adequate online learning experience.

BEFORE STARTING CLASS
Question: How do I register for my online classes?
Answer:
Once you have been accepted for admission, completed/submitted required enrollment forms, and paid your full tuition, you will be automatically registered in all of the courses in your chosen program. Prior to your first day of class, you will be sent an e-mail with instructions on how to get started. You will be able to access your course on the first day of class.

Question: How do I get my course materials?
Answer:
In order to reduce tuition costs, eliminate duplication of materials that a student may already have in his or her possession, and to allow the student to find the most inexpensive prices, distance education students must order/purchase separately supplemental materials that are required for the program for which they enrolled. Please see our Distance Education Catalog to view required and recommended materials.

Question: Is there an orientation in which I must participate?
Answer:
Yes. A brief orientation on how to navigate your online course is available through your Blackboard™ student home page. This is a requirement of students who are enrolled in our “Dog Training Fundamentals: An Enthusiast’s Guide” program, and must be completed prior to beginning your first course. This will start you off on the right path toward a successful online experience.

Question: Do I need to have a dog on which to practice what I have learned?
Answer:
If you are a “Dog Training Fundamentals: An Enthusiast’s Guide” student, it is not a requirement to have a dog to work with, although you may find it helpful to reinforce what you have learned. If you are enrolled in “Pet Obedience Instructor: Theory and Application of Canine Behavior”, then yes, you do need a dog that has either received no prior training, or no more than basic obedience training.

AFTER STARTING CLASS
Question: Can I work on my class anytime?
Answer:
Our program is asynchronous (you can take the course anytime of the day, from any location). Your online courses, however, have set beginning and ending dates during which you may move at your own pace. For example, you may have one course that lasts 1 week. You have from the first day of class until the last day of class scheduled for that course to complete its requirements, but you may work on the class materials and assignments at any hour or day during that week, unless otherwise noted in the course syllabus.

Question: How do I take my exams?
Answer:
In each course, there is a timed online final examination that you will be required to take through your Blackboard™ course site. This requires you to have studied what you’ve learned prior to the test (in other words, no open books or notes allowed) because you will have a very short window of time in which to complete the exam—there won’t be time for you to consult books/notes. This will be a part of your final grade for a course. There are also short quizzes called “Checkpoint Challenges” that you must take through your Blackboard™ course site at the end of most lessons that make up a course. Each quiz will be graded in order for you to measure your grasp of the content, but will not count in your final grade.

Question: How do I find out my grades in each course?
Answer:
When you are registered in your courses via Blackboard™, you will have your own student home page where you may view your grade reports.

Question: How long does each course last?
Answer:
It depends on the course. The Dog Training Fundamentals: An Enthusiast’s Guide Program lasts 10 weeks, and Pet Obedience Instructor: Theory and Application of Canine Behavior lasts 16 weeks. Courses in both programs run either from 1 to 2 weeks each.

Question: What will I receive when I complete a program?
Answer:
Upon successfully completing the online program in which you enrolled, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and an official transcript of your academic work. You will also be granted access to an online forum where you and other graduates of our program can ask questions, offer tips, share success stories and photos, and remain in contact with your team of distance education instructors. In addition, graduates of the “Dog Training Fundamentals: An Enthusiast’s Guide” program will have satisfied all prerequisites for entering our “Pet Obedience Instructor: Theory and Application of Canine Behavior” program. Graduates of our “Pet Obedience Instructor: Theory and Application of Canine Behavior” program will have satisfied any prerequisites for participating in future Triple Crown Academy on-site workshops, when offered.
